About  Missing Black Cats

white snowflakes settle on the coat of a cold, black cat

About:  Missing Black Cats showcases missing black cats of Ontario, Canada, and informs about found black cats, black cat sightings, reunited black cats, black cat adoptions, and sadly, deceased black cats. Missing Black Cats provides tips on searching for missing cats, and identifying and photographing black cats.

Colours:  Because black cats are not always solid black and often display other colours, such as white or orange, Missing Black Cats also includes black cats with white markings, black-and-white cats, tortoiseshell cats, and calico cats. Missing Black Cats also sometimes includes (mostly) solid dark grey, or (mostly) solid dark brown cats, which can look black at night or in low light.

Find:  Our featured Missing Black Cat is Tannie from Barrie, Ontario. Download Tannie's poster, 1700x2200 pixels, 1.94MB PNG file. Thank you for helping to find Tannie!

History:  Missing Black Cats was founded in October 2020 to help find a formerly abandoned-in-the-woods, then rescued black cat, named #BlackCat, who went missing in Brampton, Ontario. During her search, the difficulties of finding and identifying missing black cats became despairingly apparent. Happily, the 7yo female returned home after almost 12 days. During the time #BlackCat was missing, another known-to-be-wary, local stray black cat was befriended. The missing and stray black cats brought back memories of Sheba, a 1yo fertile, feral black cat who had been painstakingly tamed long ago. Sheba had heartbreakingly gone missing to live in the fields and ditches of industrial wasteland, to be seen again, but never to be reunited. The search for #BlackCat brought awareness of the many other missing black cats in Ontario, needing help to come home. A decision was made to continue the project, looking for Missing Black Cats.
